In the Great Depression, people sold apples or pencils on street corners. In the New Depression; I want the pitchfork concession on the National Mall.

Gen - you can have the torches concession at the other end.

Deal?

Geithner has done his damage. He shifted billions of public funds into few private hands.

Politician first chose Paulson. Then Geithner. I am afraid, the next one won't be any different. Bankers are entrenched deep into Washington.

We also have to sack the entire OCC and OTS staff and tell Sheila Bair that the next bank she seizes that has more than a 5% loss on assets to the deposit fund better be accompanied by her resignation.

Obviously, Bair would have to resign immediately then, which is maybe your intention. Why not give her 30 or 60 days to close those that would lose more than 5% and then it's fair game after that time period?

The November election put the last nail in the coffin of Obama mystique. And the Democrats are now worried about unemployment come next November. Nothing motivates like self preservation. That said, Congressman DeFazio seems to have been on the right side of the issue and other congressmen are climbing onto his bandwagon.

Folks,

I am afraid the republic will not be restored without a reset. Where is our Cincinnatus? A Captain or Major in Afghanistan perhaps. If I wanted to live in Brazil I would move there. I have 3 kids for chrissakes.

Rant over.

I just wanted to point out the while still a politician Peter Defazio opposed and voted against Paulson's bail outs and continues to be a voice in the wilderness along with Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul in opposing Washington DC and Wall Street Demogoguery:

The early 20th century American social critic and humorist H. L. Mencken, known for his "definitions" of terms, defined a demagogue as "one who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots."

As George Bernard Shaw said:

But though there is no difference in this respect between the best demagogue and the worst, both of them having to present their cases equally in terms of melodrama, there is all the difference in the world between the statesman who is humbugging the people into allowing him to do the will of God, in whatever disguise it may come to him, and one who is humbugging them into furthering his personal ambition and the commercial interests of the plutocrats who own the newspapers and support him on reciprocal terms.

Agreed Jata. Anyone in CONgress who didn't ask the tough questions of Geithner or Bernanke with the NUMEROUS opportunities that they have had to do so in the past 14 months has lost all right to say anything at this point and should resign. Nothing but softballs are thrown at these guys every time they testify. Dog and pony show and nothing more. Only ctrl-alt-del will fix what ails us.

I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with his financial staffer. There is no question the message got across, i. e. that they are closer to pitchforks than they realize if they fail to follow through on this. I am probably being naive once again but feel like he appreciated my call. He seemed to be fairly well informed on the GS/AIG situation. As expected he said it is ultimately up to Obama, but I said in spite of that, it is incumbent on them to get the facts to taxpayers so they can judge whether Obama either does not understand or understands and refuses to act. I hit em up on the need for audit, subpoena of records, etc. to make that possible. He has my name and phone number so hope they will be calling back.

This butt-head just said that he believes the repeal of Glass-Steagall was not a contributory factor in the financial mess. What drove him to that conclusion, I wonder? Perhaps the crazy leverage ratios of all the firms that exploded? He's probably just lying; he's good at that.
